Taiwan to Meet Australia in Pool B Opener

1 Mar

World Baseball Classic 2013 kicks off today and I’ll be in Taichong Baseball Stadium rooting for Team Taiwan !!!

The game is scheduled for 11:30 p.m. ET Friday, 12:30 p.m. Saturday local time

While it is almost certain that former New York Yankees and Washington Nationals right-hander Chien-Ming Wang will start against the Aussies, former Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Hung-Chih Kuo will be ready in the bullpen to take over, should Wang run into trouble.

Australia is the underdog in the pool, as it is the lowest ranked among the four teams, but it still boasts players with previous Major League experience.

The Aussies have the capability to surprise, too, as they unexpectedly snatched the silver medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens under the guidance of manager Jon Deeble, who is again coaching the team this year.

With the opening pitch scheduled for 12:30pm and a sellout crowd of 20,000-plus expected to stand behind the home team, the hosts are looking to start this year’s tournament in grand fashion. The top two finishers will earn a visit to Tokyo in the second round for a chance to advance into the championship round in San Francisco, California.

Let’s Go Wang! Let’s Go Kuo!! Let’s Go Team Taiwan!!!
